Shaped Diamonds

The round cut diamond is by far the most popular diamond shape available today, accounting for approximately 75% of all diamonds sold. A round diamond is known to provide more flexibility in terms of balancing cut, color, and clarity grades while achieving the visual design and style to wish for. It is also considered superior to many fancy shapes at the proper reflection of light, which in turn, maximizes the diamond’s potential brightness.

Right behind round cut, the princess cut is second in terms of popularity. With pointed corners, it is traditionally square in shape and with a high visual appeal and unique cut. So while it’s a popular choice for engagement rings, it’s flexible enough for almost any ring style

The cushion cut has a square or rectangular outline with rounded corners. While the preferred shape has a 1:1 ratio, we most often see it in a slightly elongated shape. This classic cut has been around for almost 200 years, and for the first century of its existence, it was the most popular diamond shape (similar to the round cut today). Until the early 20th century, the cushion cut diamond was the de facto diamond shape, and is still extremely popular as it has better ‘fire’ than the other diamonds.

The emerald-cut is among the most classic of diamond shapes and is usually cut into a rectangular shape. Its clean lines come from step-cutting, or parallel line facets, and it is always cut with blocked (cut) corners. Instead of the sparkle of a brilliant-cut, emerald cut diamonds produce a hall-of-mirrors effect, with the interplay of light and dark planes. While less fiery, the long lines and dramatic flashes of light give the emerald cut an elegant appeal.
